Airbnb Luxe Explained [Airbnb’s Luxury Listings]

Airbnb Luxe Explained

Airbnb provides a wide range of lodging options.

One of its categories of lodging properties is called Airbnb Luxe. The Luxe program allows guests to book luxury stays and create their own personalized experience - a concept Airbnb calls “bespoke travel”.

In this guide, we’ll cover what you should know about Airbnb Luxe.

After explaining what exactly the Luxe program is, I’ll cover three main benefits to booking a Luxe listing, show you how to find and book one on the Airbnb site, then compare the differences between “regular” Airbnb listings, Plus listings and Luxe listings.

What Is Airbnb Luxe?

Luxe listings are Airbnb’s most luxurious rentals.

Properties in the Luxe program include penthouses, manors, entire islands and more. They range from a few hundred dollars per night to tens of thousands. In 2017, Airbnb bought the company, Luxury Retreats International. After spending two years integrating Luxury Retreats’ properties under its own umbrella, Airbnb unveiled its “Luxe” program in 2019 - as part of its overall aim to offer the widest variety of lodging options online.

Users who book a Luxe listing may add amenities to their trip (such as airport pick-up, a fully-stocked kitchen upon arrival and even a private butler). Some features are included in the nightly rate, while others can be added for a fee (depending on the listing). Perhaps the best perk of booking a Plus listing is that you’ll receive your own “trip designer”, who serves as a personal advisor/concierge for your trip - accessible 24/7, from the time you book until you check out.

The Benefits Of Airbnb Luxe

Considering the high price point, Luxe listings clearly aren’t ideal for all travelers. So whether you’re new to Airbnb or have only booked non-Luxe listings in the past, here are three benefits of booking a Luxe listing compared to booking a “regular” Airbnb listing:

Benefit #1: You’ll Save Time And Worry

  • While Airbnb is generally safe to use, new users are susceptible to booking lower quality places (which can lead to a poor experience) if they do not know how to spot quality listings and trustworthy hosts. But you don’t need to worry about this with Luxe listings, as Airbnb vets all stays and hosts prior to giving “Luxe approval”.

Benefit #2: Customizable Experience

  • Luxe bookings are customizable. For example, when renting a beachfront house with a large section of sand on the property, you can request a temporary volleyball court to be set up for your arrival. Of course, this type of request isn’t guaranteed to be accepted, and it will depend on the property type, size of the property and available supplies at the property you book.

Benefit #3: Your Personal Trip Designer

  • When you book a Luxe listing, you’ll get your own personal trip designer. This designer’s job is to tailor your trip to exactly what you want, and make everything as simply and smoothly as possible for you, from booking until checkout. Best of all, you’ll have 24/7 access to them.

Regular Listings vs. Airbnb Plus vs. Airbnb Luxe

On Airbnb, listings can be categorized into 3 tiers: Regular, Plus and Luxe

Regular Airbnb properties aren’t physically inspected by an Airbnb representative, while Plus and Luxe properties are. Luxe properties are held to a higher inspection standard than Plus properties (over 300 criteria must be met for a property to join Luxe - including a balanced bedroom to bathroom ratio).

Of these three listing tiers, Luxe is the only one that’s customizable. With a Plus booking, you’ll feel more like you have your own apartment or house. With a Luxe booking, you’ll also have a trip designer whose job it is to ensure that you receive what you need and aren’t inconvenienced in any way. To learn about Plus listings, click here.
