Do Bed And Breakfasts Serve Lunch Or Dinner? [Half, Full Board, How To Book]

Do B&Bs Serve Lunch Or Dinner?

B&Bs typically include a “free” daily breakfast.

However, lunch and dinner options depend on the particular bed and breakfast you book with. If a B&B offers lunch or dinner, those meals might be included in your nightly rate, be available as optional add-ons, or put onto a tab that you’ll pay upon checking out.

In this guide, we’ll cover how lunch or dinner meals work in a bed and breakfast.

After addressing whether B&Bs include breakfast, we’ll explore how lunch and dinner meals typically work in a B&B, the meaning of “half board" and “full board”, which meal options fit your particular travel style, as well as how to find a B&B that serves dinner, lunch or afternoon tea in your specific destination.

Do Bed And Breakfasts Always Include Breakfast?

Breakfast is a standard feature in a bed and breakfast. In my experience, it’s almost always included in the stay, and is certainly a key reason why guests book this type of accommodation. Cost of breakfast is typically included in the up-front nightly rate (but some B&Bs offer “pay as you go” breakfast). To find a B&B that offers breakfast, enter your destination, dates and the number of guests on Agoda.com, then click “Search”.

Next, click the “Property types” tab, then select the “Guesthouse/bed and breakfast” filter.

Lastly, click the “Property facilities” tab, then select “Breakfast included” below the “Room offers” section.

Now your search results will only be displaying B&Bs and guesthouses that include breakfast in the stay.

Do Bed And Breakfasts Serve Lunch And Dinner?

Some B&Bs also serve lunch and/or dinner. However, lunch/dinner options are not standard B&B features. These meals could be included as part of a booking package (which you’d pay for up-front), as an optional purchase (you’d be charged per meal), or all meals that you order during your stay will be put onto a tab that you’ll pay for when you check out of your stay.

Some B&Bs have an on-site restaurant (guest-only or public). The meals may be served buffet or à la carte (some hosts are willing to pack meals to-go), and may be included in the tours you book with your host. For example, if you booked a kayak trip, your host might organize the itinerary such that lunch is served to you and your group at the lake you’ll be visiting.

What Do “Half Board” And “Full Board” Mean?

In the travel industry, “half board” and “full board” are terms used to describe the number of meals an accommodation serves per day. These terms may be used in various types of lodging businesses (such as hotels, B&Bs, guest houses, resorts, etc.).

Half Board

“Half board” means that breakfast and another meal (typically dinner) are included in the up-front nightly rate. Some B&B hosts will offer flexible timing of the second meal (this depends on your particular host).

Full Board

“Full board” means that breakfast, lunch and dinner are included in your up-front rate. Guests may still have to pay for any extra snacks or drinks they order outside of these meal times (this will vary by host).

All-Inclusive

“All-inclusive” means breakfast, lunch, dinner and any other snacks or drinks are included in your up-front nightly rate. All-inclusive stays may include activities, such as bicycle or kayak rentals, at no extra charge.

* Some B&Bs offer multiple meal options for their guests to choose from during their stay (for example, both half board and full board).

Which Option Should You Choose?

Below, I’ve listed 3 reasons why a traveler may prefer to pay for a stay that offers breakfast only, breakfast + lunch or dinner, or breakfast + lunch and dinner:

Breakfast Only

  • You prefer to eat a large breakfast before you leave to explore the area for the rest of the day

  • You prefer to maintain a spontaneous travel style, in which you have freedom to your day

  • You prefer to sample the local restaurants and cuisine in the destination you’re visiting

Breakfast + Lunch or Dinner

  • You prefer to leave the property after you eat lunch (you enjoy a late start to your day)

  • You plan to leave the property after you eat breakfast, but return by lunch or dinner time

  • You prefer to eat only two meals per day (keep in mind, B&B meals tend to be quite large)

Breakfast + Lunch + Dinner

  • You plan to spend most of your stay in or nearby the B&B property you’ve booked

  • You’d rather relax at the B&B than to have to leave the property to find somewhere to eat

  • You already know you’ll enjoy the meals your B&B host will be serving during your stay

*Depending on meal prices in a destination, you may potentially save money by eating meals at your B&B (versus eating out).

How To Find B&Bs That Serve Dinner

(Evening Meal)

On Agoda.com, enter your destination, dates and the number of guests, then click “Search”.

Next, click the “Property types” tab, then select the “Guesthouse/bed and breakfast” filter.

Then, click the “Property facilities” tab, and select the “Dinner included” filter below “Room offers”.

Now your search results will only display B&Bs and guesthouses that include dinner. Browse the listings to find one that suits your tastes. Keep in mind, some hosts refer to their dinner as the “evening meal”.

* Some B&Bs offer dinner/evening meal deals. To find them, see Agoda’s Deals page.

How To Find B&Bs That Serve Lunch

(Afternoon Meal)

On Agoda.com, enter your destination, dates and the number of guests, then click “Search”.

Next, click the “Property types” tab, then select the “Guesthouse/bed and breakfast” filter.

Next, click the “Property facilities” tab, and select the “Lunch included” filter below “Room offers”.

*If you do not see the “lunch included” filter in a particular destination, this means no B&Bs serve lunch in that destination. In this case, you can try searching “bed and breakfast that serves lunch in (your destination)” on Google.

How To Find B&Bs That Serve Afternoon Tea

On Agoda.com, enter your destination, dates and the number of guests, then click “Search”.
